I am sorry that I can't address that question. When I called in to transfer, I just asked to do the transfer, no mention of a fee however, both of the accounts were originally both SPG... no Marriott component. I would just call to do the transfer and see what they say. My points transferred to spouse account immediately. I waited a day before transferring them to the American account. From my perspective,even if I had to pay the $10 fee, it was still cheaper than trying to transfer 25,000 miles from my AA account to Spouse AA account. Sharing that many miles between AA accounts was ~$235.00.
