At the very least he can do an easy status challenge and enjoy status for a year, but at some point I would think one has to choose an airline to be loyal with. Trying to chase status on 2 lines seems like lost opportunity on both sides.
I fly enough to get top status on both.
If I had remained with AC full time, 3MM was within reach. The lesson is that you cannot put your eggs in one basket. And my flying allowed me get the status on both.
