That works for WGA.
In this particular scenario, prices wouldn't go up or down. AT (and BS) fares do not change. If a WGA fare becomes available, the best course of action would be to book it, and then immediately cancel the AT booking and request a refund.
It's unlikely (in this scenario) but if the WGA fare later goes down, then your advice would be appropriate.
