If you already know that your carrier issues a boarding control card for SB, that is what you need. Whether a given Officer on a given date at a given airport will let you through with a BP for an earlier flight has nothing to do with a more sharp-eyed Officer will do. If you happen to be using an airport piloting the expanding ID-only checkpoint, you won't make it through because the system tracks you and is not dependent on how eagle-eyed the Officer is.

Either way, you need to allow enough time to be sent back from the checkpoint to your carrier's counter for a document.
