Thanks. I can get a boarding pass-looking thing that states that I’m on standby. I have to get it from a ticket agent at the airpport (a kiosk and the airline’s app will not give one). It just takes so much time and typing and confusion to get one that Is rather just use the original boarding pass from the flight that already left, if I can. Sounds like I can so I will do that.

If you already know that your carrier issues a boarding control card for SB, that is what you need. Whether a given Officer on a given date at a given airport will let you through with a BP for an earlier flight has nothing to do with a more sharp-eyed Officer will do. If you happen to be using an airport piloting the expanding ID-only checkpoint, you won't make it through because the system tracks you and is not dependent on how eagle-eyed the Officer is.
Either way, you need to allow enough time to be sent back from the checkpoint to your carrier's counter for a document.
