All the places I've been to use new or new-ish POS machines (with contactless functionality, so most of the time I was using QuickPass) when I've been using my card, so I'm surprised to hear it hasn't been working as well as I thought it would.
don’t get me wrong..the card does work for me too in many locations including at international retailers like Carrefour, City Shop; tourist areas like Maglev; all hotels; major restaurants. it’s just when I go to less tourist frequented establishments...for me, particularly restaurants that are not catered to tourists or are not national in scale, that I have a problem. All the other places mentioned earlier also accept Visa. So i never had any problems there. But i got a UP card specifically to be able to use at more local establishments where Visa is not accepted. And in my experience, places that don’t accept Visa will most likely not accept this UP card as well. the only major exception that i personally have seen so far—a place that i would frequent that does not accept Visa but will accept this UP card—has been Family Mart convenience stores in Shanghai.
