If you had booked 4 one ways, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
We would be having the other discussion about the carrier not making reasonable changes to the inbound because of a messed up outbound. Pick your poison.

Anyway: within NA, it would have been 4 one way routes. (or two with stopovers), if on one ticket. Upthread added to the my knowlage of obscure rules saying that the routes must be used in order of the eticket, or the rest is forfeited. I guess the implementation is that it is priced as 2 (4?) one ways, but ticketed and "sealed" as a round trip. I suppose that is reasonable, at least if you are in the change-fee collecting business.
