No offense but this is a terrible idea. Not only is 10/10 weeks away, but anything can happen. Another flight could get cancelled before your departure and everyone could be rebooked onto your flight (this has happened to me-- my empty flight at T-24 became a full flight at T-2).
If you really want to play this strategy don't book a middle seat, instead you and your wife can book the aisles in the same row and hope nobody picks the middles. The much better option is to wait until you get to the gate. If there are still empty rows you can ask the gate agent to move you.
