My wife is currently a Gold Medallion member [and has been for the past 7 years], but was expecting to drop to Silver this year. She received a letter from Delta telling her that she received complimentary Gold status due to the amount of flying, and spending that she has done throughout 2003. My guess is they give this only to customers who have been loyal for several years.
