Having used UA points for years, I get the outsized value of using transfer partners to get premium cabin seating on flights, but we tend to use our UR points on the portal. I have always liked the use of UR points to buy flights that earn miles in the airline program (I'm not chasing status), adding to the value of the redemption. The lack of saver awards on most airlines these days means that the UR points are more valuable to me as I can actually use them for flights I want to take. It is annoying that the hotels seem to be consolidator fares at times that don't earn you the bonus points, but we usually don't do hotels with UR points. I have not used the transfer partners from UR at all, but I do appreciate having the option.
It is always an interesting discussion on what you value points/miles for flights. Is it the cash fare that you compare to, or is it what you might have been willing to pay for that flight (maybe even in a lower class of service)?
