Hilton has NOR1 upgrades that are prioritised over Diamond upgrades. Some *woods email you in advance offering you a discounted upgrade, prioritised over Platinum upgrades not confirmed with SNAs. And some hotels offer upgrades sold by front desk agents.
At least it’s not like the Hilton Stockholm that has a banner on their website telling Golds and Diamonds they won’t get an upgrade so not to expect one.
It’s basic business. If you want a suite, use a TSU. Or ask to pay at checkin. Or use the FT golden rule of book the room type you want to stay in and you won’t be disappointed.
