I hoard those toothpaste tubes (as well as the ones I get at the dentist every 6 months!) obsessively. Indeed my travel lately has been mostly domestic and sadly amenity-kit-free, and I am burning through mini toothpastes at an alarming rate. And so since my life experience has taught me that the only way to replenish them is on $6000 international business class tickets or through needing dental work, as far as I can tell they really are quite expensive to procure.
U get me.

Seriously, though, I actually have stopped packing my own toothpaste (from the dentist baggie) if I'm flying somewhere in J for less than a week - specifically because I know I'll get a mini-tube that will run out just as I'm ending my trip. And even on longer trips, I will pack one less tube than what I know I'll need. Every so often I'll be on an airline with the micro-tubes and then I have to find a supermarket or something within a day or two of arriving.
