For an upcoming trip, is everything runs smoothly, I'll pick up around 3 pm on a Friday and return around 5 pm on a Sunday. So 2 days and 2 hours, but could easily turn out to be 2d + 2.5h, which is usually charged as 3 days, right? Or an inbound flight delay could bring it down to just 2d+0h. If the rental does shorten, I don't want to pay for unused time, but I also don't want to get screwed if the extra hour/day cost is exorbitant.

Usually I'd look at the detailed price breakdown, but that's hard to do when comparing across companies as A/S does. Should I request a quote with most-likely guess on times? Or submit for 2 days even and just pay whatever extra hours I use? How do extra hours work with your new prepaid rentals?
Good questions. In these situations, we generally recommend booking for 2 days even and then just paying the overage if you return late. Generally, you'll have a 29 minute grace period, so if you return say 1:29 late, you'll only be charged for 1 hour. Agree that one you go over 2 hours, it's like another full day.

As far as how it works with prepaid rentals, we really are not sure. It's possible they prorate it based on what you paid, but with "net rates" things work a bit differently, and we haven't been doing prepaids long enough to have the data to be certain. Please do report back though if you end up going this route.
