Agent told me that because I'd called at 0058, and so before 0100, then if she did a search then no seats would come up. She said that seats 'will take about an hour to load onto the system', and that I need to call back at 7am tomorrow. I told her I needed to make sure I got the seats, but she said there'd be no problem with getting them in the morning. "But I need 2 business class seats" "Not a problem - we load 8 onto the system".
Obviously this is patently incorrect.
Anyway, did it online - not a problem for now as it's my outbound, but if I get another wrong agent when it comes to booking the return, I'll be mightily irritated if I lose the seats I need!
If you have enough Avios you can book the return online - see below from WIKI
Important update, posted by cbagent on 12 Feb 2018:
If adding the return sector to an existing one-way Amex 241 where the inbound dates were out of range at time of booking, it is now possible to book the flights online as a new one way Avios booking then call BA UK office when open.
Half of the Avios on this new booking will then be refunded to reflect Amex voucher use. The benefit of this is that there is no need to try calling open BA office in the early hours of the morning and the downside is the itinerary will be ticketed as two one way bookings. In addition the Avios balance must be high enough to take a debit of double the required Avios albeit for a relatively short time. May be of use for some people.
