First , not so many choices , 3/4 carriers max for non-stop flights and nothing by connecting flights .Less competition mean less incentive to innovate or offer good quality , cause whatever .... they do people dont really have much choice
You certainly cannot say that there is no competition on those routes. It's a blood bath in term of fares and yield outside the peak holiday period.
