This hotel has a resort fee.
Parking is free.
I don't believe there is a service fee.
So on those points, they don't stand to make any more money off me this way.
I do think this hotel has high occupancy during these dates. While I've been watching, there has never been a P+C on the website. And the cancellation period is 40 days before arrival.
There are no rooms available for points for my dates, and the cheapest room left (it's NOT a standard room) is going for over $800/night. My suite is going for much more.
I'm fine with this being the way it worked out, especially given what I'm paying here all-in. It just feels wrong - like I'm getting tricked into something. I know Hyatt has a reputation for playing games at places like the Andaz Maui (I've never had a problem there) so I'm on high alert when anything is out of the ordinary.
But I'm willing to bet my family and I just have a very enjoyable stay here. I'm thinking the reason for all this was maybe some technical issue that the rep just couldn't overcome, and didn't pursue since the P+C option was available.
