That particular camera is a fixed speed camera & they have been wrong before. In fact, there have been stories on TV about crapped out cars that can't do more than 70kph being caught on camera doing 110kph! As soon as your letter is received by the police dept, they suspend any further action on the fine until they resolve the matter. You need to act right away!
1. Beware. If it was daylight there is usually a
very clear photo of the driver.
2. If the typical oz car rental agreement is in place that specified
only the renter can drive the car you are toast anyway by lying like that.
3. The figures you quote are from Victoria I understand re calibration errors - which was a fiasco a few months back I agree. Wrong state.

I have never read the Kurrajong camera is wrong - do you have a link?
4. Lying in a signed Stat. Dec to Police you were not driving is not something to be taken lightly if you were in fact the driver.
5. As I stated above to use that option you
must NOMINATE who was driving if you say it was not you. And
THEY will be fined the $1600 plus fees. Cops have the photo of a red 2003 Commodore plate WXY-645 (or whatever) so they know there is no doubt it was the Eurocar rental vehicle.
Who to fine is all this comes down to.
6. Do the crime, do the time. Doing that speed deserves a serious fine IMHO.
7. Send the $1600 is my advice. ASAP. If it drags on you are fighting city hall from 8000 miles away and fees and penalties will add so fast your head will spin.
But as I pointed out earlier I imagine Eurocar has already paid it and debited your card, so all this thread is a moot point.
