I love visiting NYC. I've flown in and out of LGA usually. I highly recommend Uber / Lyft if you've got checked bags. For Midtown - Times Square, LGA is the closest. I want to try the Q70 bus to subway sometime when I only have a backpack.
I get to experience JFK sometime next year but I'll have lots of luggage and plan on Uber.
