Do we need to contact AA (assume I have to call AA in London?) to change flights? We are on AA tickets.
Why not just ask them to put you on the MIA-LHR nonstop? Seems like an obvious choice that no one else has mentioned. Sure they may say no, but you won't know if you don't ask the question.
If that fails, then yes you can ask for an earlier MIA-ORD flight.

And yes, there is a bus that connects T3 to T5 at ORD, please look at my post from yesterday (I merged your thread into our existing thread on connecting at ORD).
