Hmmm, Cigarman, there is a big problem with what you write as it only applies to the US, or perhaps even US carriers. You see, outside the US many countries and their carriers have different rules and opinions and do not have the same views. Therefore if you were to fly BA for example, you could feel free to spend as much as you like on your under 2, infant's seat, however.....

1) they will not allow you to put a baby/child seat in it.
2) During take-off/landing and severe turbulence will require you to hold the baby in your lap and use a baby belt loop, and
3) On long haul flights airlines generally provide BASSINETS for infants, which you get for the 10% of the ticket, thereby totally negating the need to buy a seat anyway!.
