DL raised the MQM minimum in an attempt to help short-haul segment flyers reach medallion levels faster (although it wasn't enough for some folks, like Mikey). Raising the SkyMiles minimum, on the other hand, would devalue SkyMiles, which are already hard enough to redeem.
