I think that's plenty of time to deal with contingencies and to, if your flights are on time, recheck bags and enjoy time at the lounges.

When I did a separate ticket itinerary BWI->JFK JFK->LHR->TXL I gave myself about 6 hours and I had plenty of time to relax in the Flagship Lounge at JFK.
