Having recently got a bunch of Avios in the 90k Iberia promo and having nothing better to do with them before December, I booked an Avis car rental. Then came the news that they could be transferred over to BA, so I decided to cancel the car booking.

Iberia were clueless about how I should go about this and Avis were much more helpful. I cancelled online (as required by both Iberia and Avis) and was told by Avis that it was over to Iberia to refund the Avios. Iberia told me that it would happen automatically. A week on and no Avios. I doubt the automatic refund part, as at some point I presumably need to pay the £/€ 25 Iberia cancellation fee.

Has anyone successfully negotiated this labyrinth ? Calling up Iberia is a nightmare and their CS agents really seem clueless, so it would help if I could tell them what the correct procedure should be .....
