Family trip but now need to travel separately - how to keep benefits for family?

My family (4 of us) and I are slated to travel on United from ORD to LAX at 2:35pm next week. I am a premier platinum and because of my status we are eligible for Group 1 boarding, free baggage, etc. Due to a last minute business meeting, I have had to change my plans to travel from ORD to IAD on the same day at around 2pm. I looked into canceling my ticket and I really don't save anything by doing that. I also don't want my family to lose my status and enjoy the benefits of boarding early, etc.

I am wondering if they can just check-in to the 2:30pm flight w/o me before I check into my 2pm flight? Also, they will have 1 bag to check-in. Do I need to be present at the time of check-in or can my wife and kids do it by themselves?
