Avios have done a terrible job with communicating this change.
Through various mergers and purchases IAG ended up with to avoid schemes in the UK. They had BAEC and and a scheme called AirMiles which were entirely separate. When IAG invented the avois currency, they renamed AirMiles, as Avios Travel Rewards instead of merging with BAEC. I assume this was because of certain contracts partners. For example BA and AMEX have a co-branded card while the AirMiles scheme had a LloydsTSB product. Over time these contracts must have ended and the group have taken the decision to have a single avois programme in the UK.
IAG planned that all Avios schemes would use a common platform and Vueling, Meridiana and Aer Lingus use the avois.com portal, like the Travel Rewards Programme. BA and IB never switched.
What will remain?
- The Avios currency
- BA Executive Club - via ba.com
- Iberia Plus - via Iberia.com
- AerClub, VuelingClub, MeridianaClub - via avios.com
What will close?
- UK based Avios Travel Rewards, avios.com. These members will be transferred to BAEC, the Avios App will close, but other users won't see any changes.
