Just to clarify few things:

3)Yes you can use e-upgrades, but it could ONLY be done on a paid ticket, not an award ticket.

6)I may be wrong, but doesn't a first class award get you into lounges on a non-stop transcon routing? (I know this won't help the OP, but I think I'm right on this)
