A note of caution for those in need of a taxi arriving at Naples airport.
I never use this service, relying on my scooter or car, but last week had no choice.
They keep relentlessy trying to overcharge riders, despite the fixed prices, also on account of many stories I read and hear.
Driver first tried to handpick a family of obvious tourists in my place, cause looking local I'm less desiderable.
Upon asking him the predetermined fare to Naples Central station (googled it myself beforehand) I was quoted 30 EUR.
Motioning annoyed to take back my bag from the trunk, he scaled back to 25EUR and then 20EUR.
The official fare is 18EUR, just recently renegotiated by their unions, but clearly for these scammers is not enough for a 10 min drive.
Begrudgingly I accepted the ride anyway, cause had a train to catch, and his revenge was an insane reckless rush. And I mean utterly scary, even for my Italian standards.
Upon arrival I took a photo of the car's plate to report him, and of course the guy started to throw insult and threats, blocking physically my way and requiring to delete the pic.
Interesting cause most of them are former inmates and deeply linked with the local mob Camorra.
Of course my complain has been sent both at Naples municipality liable for the taxi licenses and NAP airport management entity, the Gesac SPA.
I get chills at the thought of what a tired family of tourists can get charged for a ride to Sorrento or other areas of Naples further from the station by this pack of wolves.
Needless to say Uber is not present in Naples, nor other apps are.
Always check the attached official charts and
never ever enter the cab before agreeing upon the set price.
