Like the Tumi you would just put it into the overhead sideways. Ive flown on a decent amount of regionals and have not had to gate check it much...unless I boarded the plane late (that has happened a few times with tight connections/delays or Europe flights on really tiny planes).

Obviously it'll get the scratches and dents like any alu case, but wondering about the overall quality and durability.
I haven't checked it from the counter at all, but I have had to do a few gate checks. Its gotten some scratches/dents but I dont think its looking bad. I will try to get some current pics of mine soon.
