So kudos to UA who at times have given me boarding passes from Europe or Sth America-USA-Oz and vice versa, even if that journey has taken way over 24 hours, and even if layovers of more than 12 hours are involved - they cope. Never realised how smooth their system was until dealing with those klutzes at NW.
Amen! Last time I flew NW (or any non *A carrier for that matter) in Summer 2000, Rome, Italy - DTW - IND with the connection on the same flight #, checkin at Rome gave me a BP for DTW-IND with a 10J seat assignment. I spent several minutes trying to explain to her that NW doesn't fly DC-10's to Indy and that DTW-IND flight's don't have J-column seats to no avail.

The gate agent at DTW for the IND flight was quite confused as to why the ongoing pax had such bogus seat assignments on a A320. Of course I ended up in some crappy middle seat as a result.

Kudos to UA for not being this way!
