It is interesting about the Canadian rules on addition of further pages to a passport.

I have a friend living in New Delhi, who is an Indian citizen. He is a business man, travelling abroad very frequently. In India, one can renew the original passport after 5 years of use, for another 5 years. He is a few years into his renewal - he has added pages (equivalent to the number of pages in the original passport) in Delhi, six times - ie he goes through the pages of a whole passport, an average of once every year (realizing, with Indian citizens, one needs a visa when travelling to almost every foreign country in the world)!
