I've been using the Nomatic since it came out and I am very happy with it. I don't need "business clothes" so that may be part of it. I also am an old (nearly 64) overweight guy -- not your typical hike the Appalachian Trail sort of guy -- and I have no problem carrying the Nomatic (without the hip belt even) -- so if I can do it most people can

What sold me on the Nomatic was the way it quickly switches from backpack to duffel without dangly stuff. I used a eBags convertible for a while but when when carried it by a handle the backpack straps were dragging and catching -- unless you stopped to stow them. Similarly, when going the other way you have to stop and deploy the straps. Found it a pain, so I stopped using it. The Peak system looks better than most but it looks like you still have to fiddle with them.

I don't mean to be pushing the Nomatic -- I think most of those bags mentioned in the video would work. Having to carry what you bring does focus the mind a bit -- I have a lot more "dual use" things and multiple wear/easy wash clothes (ExOfficio, Ably, etc). My brother (who is a backpacker) tells of his hero, some guy who retired and it (or has by now) hike the perimeter of the continental US, whose philosophy is "you carry your fears." I have learned to fear less

As an aside, I do bicycle touring and on my first tour I pretty much brought a spare bike Not really, but I had one (or more) of everything that I thought might possibly break. No I carry far less (though I am not traversing the Gobi Desert which would be another thing). You just have to get in the frame of mind -- will I use this or is this "just in case" and if the latter, how hard would it be for me to buy one if I need it. So a spare pair of glasses? Yes. A spare pair of shoes? No

BTW, the guy in the video seems to knock all the other bags because the Peak packing cubes don't fit a nicely as they do in the Peak bag. Seems strange (and backwards) to me
