I travel about 100k miles per year (United & Star Alliance only). In the 20 years I have been traveling domestic and international, there has only been 1 time I was asked if my bag fits in the measured bins outside the gate. I have not been asked to weight my bags yet. I think the rules are put in place so they have the rules to fall back on when they need to. If they weighted bags on international flights I have been on, probably 80% of the bags brought on the flight would have to be checked.

And if you are force to check your One Bag, then so be it. It is still only one bag. When you get to places like Asia or Europe and are walking around...taking trains, etc., I think it is nice not having to roll your luggage around on cobble stone or trying to get multiple bags on and off trains. Rick Steeves travels with 1 backpack and rarely has to check. If you get asked to check your bag, you pull out your daypack, which would be prepacked with the items you would want/need to get you to your destination (iPad/Laptop/Headphones, Cables, Sleeping Gear, Toiletries, etc.)

I am pretty pumped up about this new bag and how they thought it through.
