Certainly, and I'm not advocating taking a six hour break, but I see the risk/damage from a moderate period (10-15 mins to walk around the lot) isn't likely significant.

My rules of thumb would be:
1. Only one car at a time.
2. Don't leave the location (i.e. only hold the car while you're looking for another car, or maybe making a quick bathroom in the Hertz location)
