Also, re the Marriott. I haven't stayed there, but I live in Brisbane. YMMV, but that area of the CBD seems fine to me, and I wouldn't hesitate to walk with my fiancé there. Easy walk to either Eagle Street Pier or under the Story Bridge into New Farm.
