ticket 2 PVG to LAX around 6pm following day

what visa do we need to get?

You don’t need any visa, as you should be eligible for the 144-hour transit without visa facility. Separate tickets, separate airlines is fine. At check-in in thailand you’ll need to provide both tickets and say you wish to use TWOV.
