I’d seen this after the Outdoor Retailer trade show (I guess they had prototypes there). interested. Very interested.
However, yeah: weight.
I mostly use an Osprey 46 Porter, and an Arcteryx, depending on length of trip and how much walking is needed. I like having some foam/shape to the bag to give structure. Otherwise it’s a sack. Which is why I ditched the Patagonia MLC. All the heavy stuff slid down to the bottom and shifted around.
The Arcteryx ICO and CO are basically very thin foam boxes with minimal organization. Too minimal. The Osprey Porter is near perfect but I dont like a forced laptop compartment: it takes up space and weight and... I don’t travel with a laptop often. I wish the Porter had it zip or Velcro out.
These bags need to be more modular. If you don’t want a hip belt, laptop sleeve, etc... zip it out of off.
Anyway, Peak looks a good compromise, but I’d like to see a few changes starting with eight and modularity.
Ill probably never ever find the perfect bag, which is why Kickstarter is full of people that lead their bag campaigns with “We were serious travelers but just couldn’t find the perfect bag... so we made our own!”
