We were at the Sheraton TriBeCa this weekend and happened to be at the Club up on the 21st floor as they were setting up for the evening spread of cold hors d'ouerves and beer & wine. Saw the attendant put out a cup with a couple dollar bills in it.
I don't stay domestically much and I can't recall having seen a tip cup anywhere other than this hotel. The first time I encountered it, at this very hotel, I got a quick beer before heading out and left nothing because the guy finally completed setup 25 minutes after scheduled start time and that crushed any chances he had of getting anything from me. On top of that, once he indicated he was open for business it was akin to a zoo at feeding time.
