Presuming you are in the US, why have you given up on AA flights which are still the easiest way to get some value. If it's just ba.com troubles, look for MilesAAver (non-stop) seats on aa.com and then call BA.
Otherwise from the US, maybe look at LAN heading south.
I can't seem to find any AA reward flight on ba.com , like none. I've never tried to book over the phone - is it easy and free of charge?
