Not that I think it makes any difference, but I have Marriott PPE with Ambassador in the updated program.

You need to get in touch with hotel to open up availability, then you'll be able to change the room type. It's usually also possible to upgrade with cash on checkin. Expect to pay between 150-200$++ per night.
