Why is that funny? There are lots of airlines without an alliance that have reciprocal lounge agreements with their partners. With DL's new policy, many of them could be a far better option. Just depends on what routes and airlines you fly.

Alliances are becoming obsolete IMO. The members are not working together like they once did. Independent airlines can provide equal or better benefits with their individual partners in come cases.
