If GE members (or any pax) on flights from Nigeria are being singled out for special searches by CBP on arrival in the US, then that certainly does have to do with US customs. And US customs is not charged with the responsibility of screening bags for aviation security threats, their responsibility is to prevent contraband coming into the US. Searching bags in the US is going to do nothing to deter Nigerian baggage handlers from stealing.

I could understand this occasionally if CBP was acting on semi-specific knowledge, ie, they've been tipped that someone is smuggling something into the country, probably on flight XX. Or perhaps they've got an insider tip that folks are using GE and the hope of reduced bag searches to smuggle.
confusing two different things. 1)The issue as discussed originally about US CBP searching GE members bags upon arriving at US, and 2)completely separate and unrelated issue that someone raised about Nigeria and DL getting into a tiff because DL refused to stop searching bags manually (due to US security regulations) despite order by Nigerian President that bags would only be searched in the back and airlines could No longer require screening.

#2 had nothing to do with number one and just added to confusion.
