I'm going to take a different view of being more critical of BA on the cleanliness issue. I was watching Rhod Gilbert's work experience piece on training to be BA cabin crew. When Rhod queried why be so particular about things like food service practices, the flight attendant basically said it was important to portray an overly professional stance on those things, so that if there is an emergency, people are calm and believe she takes care with emergency procedures. It does matter.
So, it's one thing for a couple of planes to miss a deep cleaning, but when passengers on virtually all of their flights encounter an unkempt interior and exterior, doubt starts creeping in your mind about how much care they are taking with essential maintenance.
