First call was a few days after the fee posted. They said there was nothing they could do about the annual fee, other than downgrade the card to the no fee version.
Second call was day 28 after the fee posted. I asked to downgrade the card, and they proactively offered me a refund of the annual fee and the 5k points for spending 1k.
