If you're close to one of the passport offices in Canada that can make the passports (during your 3 days and the office is open). There is a same day fee.

You take your old one, the new passport application, the fee (add on the same day service fee), passport photos... I did that and I was in at 09:00 am at Hull (waiting until 12:00 to talk to someone and pass in my application), spent the afternoon doing other errands, and back at 4:00 pm to pick up my new passport...
