The best use will always be use for something you need/want to book, especially if what you need/want to book would be expensive without the avios component. At times, it might well mean that you just need to book LHR-MAN return or EDI-JFK in Y one way and the cash price is scary whilst the avios pay for it. In other cases, it may even mean a hotel stay.
