I appreciate all of the advice. It sounds like the train may be a bit too much hassle. Probably leaning towards just sticking with a flight into AMS at this point. If we had a layover at LHR or some other airport but it was all on the same airline would we have to clear security/customs twice or would it just be a gate change? Hi,
You will need to clear security at London prior to London-AMS but not customs or immigration ( unless you were changing airports) as Customs immigration would be done at AMS.
This is assuming you are on one airline and can be checked through to AMS transiting through the same airport.
However note that some airlines ( ie BA) will not check baggage through on separate tickets even on the same airline ( BA)
