But if there's a chance that it causes interference, then it will cause interference even if it isn't working in the cabin! If it can cause interference, don't even play with it (especially during takeoff/landing).
I'll note that some airlines allow GPS use and some don't. Obviously the jury is out as far as they are concerned. AM/FM radio receivers are the nasty ones and no one allows them AFAIK.
