I have a general question regarding layovers. I am considering to book an award flight on LATAM with a connection let's say AAA-BBB-CCC. Actually I was planning to do a stopover for a few days in BBB. However for the first segment the flight is completely full with only Y booking class available. So I won't find award space here. Suprisingly there is award space when I search for AAA-CCC which includes the same flight AAA-BBB and BBB-CCC I was searching for. Also when I check expertflyer looking for AAA-CCC all booking classes show 9 although the first segment is almost fully booked. As long as I search for AAA-CCC and the layover is below 24h booking classes are wide open. So I would like to have a layover of about 24h at BBB to make the most of my trip. But BA will only show me the shortest connection. Is there a way to force a longer connection in BBB? Would they be able to book this when I call?
