I'm doing some research on code-sharing advantages and am curious if there are any benefits out there - especially so when it comes to BA, but am interested in all 3 major alliances.

For example, I know if you're booking a Star Alliance flight, let's say from Birmingham to US operated by Swiss, you can book it on United.com and take advantage of their free 24hr cancellation window - something you wouldn't be able to do if you booked with Swiss.

Are there any other similar advantages? Maybe something to do with earning/spending Avios?
