@OP - I had heard "can't reopen" before too, and only learned that it's an operational thing after a recent NRT-LAX flight. If you care to know, I was in 2A and the jet bridge had just retracted, then there was a commotion in the galley (some trash or something hadn't been unloaded as best I could tell), and the jet bridge came back. Captain stepped out of the cockpit, they opened door 1L, passed a bag, closed it, and we were back off.
Just double checked, have posted in the correct thread Gig. What I've stated isn't that far off from reality. Try getting into a discussion with FA whether they have interpreted FAA rules correctly and see where that gets you.
