I'd caution people about staying here at least until after CNY...it's under renovation that lasts until CNY (well there's never a "truth" or single answer here, someone said end of 2008 and someone said clearly until "Chinese" new year).

It used to be my favorite and #1 choice in BJ. in a stay a couple of months ago, in the early morning there's huge renovation (eg drilling) sound right above my room. (I have a video - not sure how to post, but all my friends who saw it could only respond with "OMG"). noises at a completely unbearable level. I was in 43F, when I called them they said, oh yes, there's renovation happening at 45F now so it's two floors above you. then I have to remind them - but you guys don't have 44F here !! frankly I think it's quite ethical or at least bad business practice to rent out such rooms to guests. they told me it's because of high occupancy but frankly I think this shouldn't be an excuse - it's just compromising customer loyalty for short term profit. they said renovation should start only at 10 am, but my experience was that continuous-completely-unbearable noises start maybe 9-10 am, and yet there's occasional drilling happening already even earlier - they told me it's probably the contractors catching up on progress and doing things against the agreed rules. but even if so - we do pay for the rooms full day and not just till 10 am, and during renovation time it's frankly just completely not possible to stay in those rooms they still offer.

anyway, they told me it would be done by end July. I gave them another month and just came here again. it's my fault not to ask my assistant to confirm more explicitly first. it turns out it's even worse now - the whole lobby etc area is under renovation. not sure if it's because of the temporary smaller space, but front desk service is much worse. even when I checked in around midnight there's a queue of 3 people in front of me and there's a wait of 10+ minutes. at checkout - I always at all hotels stop by the front desk before breakfast to ask them to prepare my bill and print the Chinese tax invoices etc. today after 30 mins when I went back they said they're still just printing it !!

the worse was...while the renovation of rooms indeed was done by end July, there's hence very strong (and toxic?) renovation smell in the room. and the worst was - they said they don't have an air purifier for every room and they ran out of it !! (because I checked in too late?) I got the final final one and yet it's just too weak (I checked online and it said it's for size 20-30 m2 while their room is like 50 m2?). I asked for a second one and then they said they actually ran out of it already - and came back with an desktop-size air humidifier (which they claim also have air purifying function - frankly even if so it's just even more useless). what's more ironic, online in their room description they said the hotel is equipped with PM 2.5 air purification system...but I have to say their rooms now probably are as toxic or even more toxic than the rest of BJ that's well known for air problem...

anyway, I have to say it still should be my favorite hotel in BJ but I wouldn't stay here at least until CNY 2019...
